Ravelry patterns

How to use your Ravelry patterns on your phone

There’s no official Ravelry app, but you can still knit your Ravelry patterns comfortably on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Download the PDF from your library, open it in Knit&Note, and keep your row count and notes with the pattern.

Is there a Ravelry app?

No. Ravelry is a website, and its own pages say there is no official Ravelry app. Patterns you buy, and free patterns you download, are stored as PDFs in your Ravelry library. Download the PDF on your phone, add it to Knit&Note, and it opens as a project you can follow row by row.

Step by step: from your Ravelry library to Knit&Note

1. Find the pattern in your library

Log in to Ravelry in your phone’s browser and open your library. Patterns you bought, and free patterns you added, are listed there. You can also use the download link in the receipt email Ravelry sent when you bought it.

2. Download the PDF

Tap the pattern and download the PDF. On iPhone and iPad it opens in the browser, and on Android it’s saved to your downloads.

3. Open it in Knit&Note

On iPhone and iPad, tap Share and choose Knit&Note. On Android, open the PDF from your downloads with Knit&Note. Printed pattern on iPhone or iPad? Share photos of the pages instead.

4. Set up your project and knit

Add the yarn and needles you’re using, then start. Count rows with the counter and write a note whenever you change something. Knit&Note remembers both.

Why knit from Knit&Note instead of the PDF

A PDF is made for printing. On a phone you pinch, zoom and scroll, and the moment you put the knitting down, your place is gone. In Knit&Note your count and notes stay with the pattern, saved in the project, so you open it next week and carry on.

You also get the rest of the toolkit around the pattern: your yarn and needle stash, statistics on your knitting time, and calculators for increases, decreases and yarn.

Find patterns on Ravelry, knit them in Knit&Note

Keep using Ravelry for what it does best: its pattern database, designer shops and forums. Use Knit&Note for the knitting itself. Lots of knitters do both.

And if you’d like new patterns without buying them one at a time, Knit&Note Premium includes a library of modern Scandinavian patterns, ready to knit in your size.

FAQ

Is there an official Ravelry app?

No. Ravelry says on its own site that there is no official app, and it lists apps made by other developers. Many knitters simply open their Ravelry PDFs in a knitting app like Knit&Note.

What is the best app for Ravelry PDFs?

Any app that opens PDFs will show the pattern. A knitting app like Knit&Note adds a row counter and notes, so you keep your place. Compare the options in our guide to the best knitting apps.

Can I import my whole Ravelry library at once?

No. Knit&Note isn’t connected to your Ravelry account, so you add patterns one at a time from the PDF. Most people add the one they’re about to start.

What happens when a designer updates the pattern?

Download the new version from your Ravelry library and open it in Knit&Note.

Does this work for crochet patterns from Ravelry?

Yes. Crochet PDFs work the same way, with the counter for rounds and notes for your changes.

Do I need a Ravelry account to use Knit&Note?

No. You only need Ravelry to get patterns from Ravelry. Knit&Note works on its own, with its own pattern library and with PDFs from anywhere.

Is Knit&Note free?

Knit&Note is free to download. Premium opens the full pattern library. You’ll see plans and prices in the app.
