The sweater is knit top-down in stockinette stitch with or without stripes. First, the back is knit back and forth as a rectangle. Then, stitches are picked up for the shoulders along the cast-on edge of the back. Each shoulder is worked separately back and forth using German Short Rows (GSR) to shape them. Stitches are increased to form the neckline. The shoulders are joined to form the front, simultaneously casting on stitches for the neckline. The front is knit back and forth. The front and back are then joined under the armhole, and the body is knit in the round. Sleeves are knit by picking up stitches around the armhole and working downwards. Finally, the neckband is knit.
