The dress is knitted top-down in stockinette stitch, with or without stripes. First, the back piece is worked back and forth as a rectangle. Then, stitches are picked up for the shoulders along the cast-on edge of the back piece. Each shoulder is knitted back and forth separately, using German Short Rows (GSR) at the beginning of each shoulder to shape them. Stitches are then increased to shape the neckline. The shoulders are joined to form the front piece, while stitches are cast on for the neckline. The front piece is then worked back and forth. The front and back pieces are joined under the armholes, and the body is knitted in the round. The sleeves are knitted by picking up stitches around the armhole and working them downward. Finally, the neckline is knitted.
