These socks are knitted from the toe up using Judy’s Magic Cast- On. You may also use Turkish Cast-On or Easy Cast-On (video tutorials are available on YouTube). If you’re not familiar with the magic loop technique, you can use
two short circular needles instead. After casting on, you may switch to double-pointed needles if preferred. In all these methods, stitches are cast on to two needles, creating a closed toe. So when the pattern says to cast on 10 (14) 18 sts, that means 5 (7) 9 sts per needle. The sock features an afterthought heel, where a contrast yarn is knit into the sole, and the heel is added later. To avoid holes at the sides of the heel, you can pick up a couple of extra stitches on the first round or sew closed afterward.
