Cuddly Stocking is worked from the top down. It begins with a stockinette folded edge in Highland Wool. The stocking is then worked in stockinette with both yarns held together until the heel. The heel is shaped using short rows worked back and forth over half the stitches, and then short rows are worked over the short rows again until all have been turned and the heel is fully shaped. The foot is worked in stockinette, and the toe is shaped with decreases. Here, the design differs from a regular sock: since the stocking is meant to hang nicely rather than fit a foot, the decreases are shifted so that the grafting runs straight down the center. Finally, the remaining stitches are grafted together using Kitchener stitch. A simple loop can be added afterward if desired.
