The sweater is knitted from the top down. The lace pattern consists of 3 rounds, with 9 rounds of stockinette stitch between each lace repeat (see chart below). On the back piece, there is 1 edge stitch on each side. On the front piece, there is 1 edge stitch on the side towards the armhole, and 2 edge stitches towards the neckline. The work starts with the back piece, which is shaped using short rows. Then, stitches are picked up along the shoulder seams, and the front pieces are knitted separately for a while before being joined. Eventually, the front and back pieces are joined on the same needle, and the body is knitted in the round on circular needles. The body is finished with a picot edge. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up along the armholes, and they are knitted in the round, either with the magic loop method or with double-pointed needles. Tip: Since the sleeves have a wide fit, it’s a good idea to try them on the child as you go, so they don’t become too long. Finally, stitches are picked up for the picot edge around the neckline.
